Hobart Hurricanes locked horns with Sydney Sixers in the fourth match of BBL 2019-20. The match turned out to be a low scoring affair but a competitive one. The encounter was eventually won by Hurricanes by 25 runs on the back of some brilliant performances given by their bowling unit.

At the starting, Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat. The decision didn’t go down well with the team as they lost opener, Caleb Jewell, on a score of 26. But from the other end, D’arcy Short looked in touch, who was playing some mesmerising strokes with his wooden sword.

In the meantime, their middle-order batsman Ben McDermott (15), David Miller (16) and George Bailey (12) started well with their innings but all the three failed to play a good knock. The fans were hopeful that Miller might play a good knock in debut match of Big Bash League but he couldn’t live up to the expectations and got out after scoring 16 runs off 19 balls.

Hobart Hurricanes won the low scoring game against Sydney Sixers

D’arcy Short scored a brilliant half-century in a crucial time for his side. However, his good knock turned out to be the main reason behind Sixers posting a competitive score of 129 runs in bowling friendly conditions.

Sean Abbott emerged as the best bowler for his Hurricanes and registered brilliant bowling figures of 3/20. And, was well supported by Ben Dwarshuis, Ben Manenti and Tom Curran from the other end, who took two wickets each in the match.

Coming onto the chase, Sixers got off to a worse possible start as they lost their opener, Daniel Hughes, in the first over of the innings. However, James Vince (18 runs off 15 balls) came out to bat on number three position and stiched a slow but good partnership of 43 runs with Josh Philippe (24 runs off 22 balls).

They were decently moving towards the target but soon Riley Meredith bowled Vince out and it turned out to be the game-changing moment. After Vince dismissal, none of the Sixers could click a good knock with the bat. Moreover, they were finding it difficult to face Hurricanes spinner Qais Ahmad.

The leg spinner took three wickets dismissing Tom Curran, Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis in the same over. After that, Sixers never looked in a position to win the match. In the end, the Hurricanes bowling unit successfully defended a lowly score of 129 against Sixers, who were dismissed in 18.5 overs at a score of 104.

In a low scoring match, Ahmad registered astonishing bowling figures of 4/12 and was given Man of the Match award for his brilliance with the ball against Sydney Sixers. The Hobart Hurricane fans were elated and congratulated them for convincingly winning their first game of BBL 2019-20.
