The Mzansi Super League 2018 has witnessed two back-to-back centuries on consecutive days. This time, it is the Proteas wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock who reached the milestone. Seldom we see one man bossing around in a team sport. But, it was that kind of a day for the gloveman where he single-handedly took his team home on a track that wasn’t easy to bat on.

De Kock battled extremely hard after the team was down to 101/8. From this stage, the team ended with 173/9 which is truly a splendid effort. This bonus point victory has pretty much sealed the playoff spot for the Cape Town Blitz. The ABD-led Tshwane Spartans have done an RCB here as they now have to win all four games to make it into the knockouts.

Quinton de Kock registers the highest score in MSL

It was just a matter of time before someone would register the second century of the league. But, it came rather quickly with De Kock getting there under much more difficult circumstances. From 83/0 to 101/8 to 173/9, this innings was truly a rollercoaster ride after the Cape Town Blitz were put into bat first. The wicket-keeper batsman was batting on 55 from 35 balls. when the side lost 8 wickets.

In the next 20 deliveries, he scored 43 runs without much support from the other end. His cautious acceleration and the way he built his innings is something that the youngsters should pick and learn. De Kock eventually got out for 108 runs and the team got to 173 runs which was way above par.

Tshwane Spartans disappoint yet again

It wasn’t an easy track to bat on and there was some special show required if the target was to be chased down. However, no one managed to do so and the side was bowled out for 112 in 18.2 overs. The Spartans lost the match by 60 runs and Dean Elgar with 37 was the top scorer of the innings. Nandre Burger and Mohammad Nawaz picked up three wickets each.

The Spartans were heavily trolled after this loss. Comparisons were drawn with IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, who ‘tend’ to choke in crucial games despite having a good team. Twitterati saluted Quinton de Kock for the brilliance he pulled off when all the hopes were down. Many termed this to be one of the greatest T20 innings ever. Also, RCB was criticised for letting him go ahead of the auction.

Here is how Twitterati reacted:
