The ultra-defensive South Africa tried their best to deny India a victory in the last Test of the Freedom Series but were beaten by a whopping 337 runs after a lot of hard work by Indian bowlers. Yet again, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who was in the middle of all the happening for India.

Ashwin is currently the best off-spinner in the world. He looked unplayable in home conditions and has been the chief architect of many memorable wins for India including this series. However, the last Test at Feroz Shah Kotla was the real Test for him where he was drubbed by Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers. But, he overcame that challenge and took a match-turning haul of 5/61 at the end of the second innings which included the wickets of Bavuma and AB de Villiers.

In all, Ashwin had a highly successful series with 31 wickets at an average of 11.12. He took 4 five-wicket hauls and a ten-wicket haul in the seven innings. At Mohali and Nagpur, he was devilish and the South Africans hardly managed to counter him.

He was adjudged as the Man of the Series for the 5th time in his career. It is a huge achievement considering that he has only played 32 Tests until now. Slowly but surely, Ravichandran Ashwin has completed the whole transition from being just a good bowler with variations to a Test match specialist with great control and shrewdness.

As soon as the match ended, Twitter was flooded with tweets appreciating the wonderful effort by the Tamil Nadu offie.
