Twitter Reactions: Ravindra Jadeja becomes No. 1 Test all-rounder in the world

Ravindra Jadeja galloped to become the top ranked all rounder in Test cricket following decent performances in the ongoing Sri Lanka series. The left-arm spinner has 13 wickets from 2 Tests besides a handy unbowed knock of 70 in the Colombo Test which helped him achieve the No. 1 spot amongst all rounders.

Jadeja has made a remarkable comeback in the Test side after missing out of the team for 16 months. Since then, he has not only got bucket full of wickets but also made valuable contributions with the bat down the order. In the last five series, the left-handed batsman has scored 641 runs at 45.79, including 7 half centuries in 15 Tests. This is more than half of the 28-year old’s entire career runs which speak volumes about his turn around with the bat. In the same period, Jadeja has picked 84 wickets at 23.75, including 5 five-wicket hauls. It is fair to say that Jadeja is at his peak of prowess, especially in Test cricket.

As a result of his extraordinary run in the longest form of the game, Jadeja has perched at the top of the rankings in the list of all-rounders, dethroning Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan. He also remains the No. 1 ranked Test bowler, underlying his impact in Test cricket in the last 18 months. He also achieved his career best batting ranking as he climbed 9 places to reach the 51st spot.

His spin-twin Ravichandran Ashwin has also reached the No. 1 spot for all rounders in Test cricket before he was overtaken by Shakib. Currently, he is at the No. 3 spot with 418 points while Shakib has 431 seven fewer than Jadeja. The English duo of Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes take up the 4th and 5th spot.

Jadeja was also considered a limited overs expert but his recent performances in Test cricket have eclipsed his white-ball exploits. He has, on occasions, out bowled senior spinner Ashwin as he has the knack of bowling tirelessly at the same spot day-in and day-out. Kohli was particularly pleased with the all-rounder evolvement and hailed his performance during India’s strenuous home Test season.
