The Indian team preferred to pick Ravichandran Ashwin as the first choice spinner even half fit in the first four matches and when there was an occasion to play two of them Kuldeep Yadav got a nod ahead. Ravindra Jadeja the man who has over 150 wickets and has scored 1000+ runs in his 36-match Test career got his chance only in the final Test at The Oval. Jadeja made the most of it with an impressive all-round show.

Only one inning per-side has been played in the match yet but he’s done enough to tell the team management he deserved better. He picked up a four-wicket haul bowling on the first day and half of day 2. When the team was in deep trouble having lost the top as well as the middle order still deep in the trail he pulled out his sword to deal with that as well.

Jadeja first played a really good partner for Hanuma Vihari who scored his maiden fifty on Test debut. They were 8 and 25 respectively at stumps on the first day and had to play out a really tough spell from James Anderson and Stuart Broad. Jadeja, in particular, left the ball well and judged what to play at and what not with excellent precision. The two added 78 runs for the 7th wicket partnership and brought the Indian trail down to under 100.

Vihari got out towards the end of the first session and it was upto Jadeja now to bat with the tail and get as many runs as possible. He did just that and played his shots whenever he fancied a chance to pull it off. Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami didn’t stay with him for long enough but the left-hander got to his 9th Test fifty.

As he got there with a boundary off Moeen Ali. He dusted off his bat indicating that it has been off use for far too long. Jaddu then rolled out the Rajput sword celebration his signature and pointed at his T-shirt again saying that he belongs here. The skipper Virat Kohli among others was there standing up and applauding his feat from the dressing room.

Here is how Twitterati reacted to Jadeja’s fifty:
