In what was a low scoring game between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab, RCB continued to disappoint in this year’s IPL. With this win, Kings XI Punjab made their position for playoffs better with a 19-run win. Earlier in the day, it was captain Virat Kohli who won the toss as the Royal Challengers Bangalore elected to field first at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

Both Caribbean men, Chris Gayle and Samuel Badree came back to the playing XI in place of Adam Milne and Travis Head. Punjab had an unchanged XI from their last game. They were off to a poor start as both openers Hashim Amla and Martin Guptill were dismissed cheaply. The likes of Shaun Marsh, Manan Vohra and Wriddhiman Saha got starts but failed to stay at the crease for a longer duration.

It was Axar Patel’s crucial cameo of 38 (17)* that ensured Kings XI had something to defend on the board. However, Captain Glenn Maxwell again failed to get going. Punjab managed to post a total of 138/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Aniket Choudhary and Yuzvendra Chahal got a couple of wickets each.

However, RCB’s disappointing run with the bat continued as the top trio of Kohli, Gayle and AB de Villiers again couldn’t do anything special to create any kind of impact for RCB. Sandeep Sharma got all the 3 wickets as he seemed to be on a roll.

Even Kedhar Jadhav and Shane Watson failed to get going. Only Mandeep Singh played the lone hand as he managed to score 46 (40). Pawan Negi did try to score runs but RCB didn’t have wickets in hand. Indeed the hosts were all out for 119 runs.

Sandeep Sharma and Axar Patel got three wickets each while Glenn Maxwell also chipped in with two scalps. Mohit Sharma also managed to get a couple of wickets as Kings won by 19 runs. Sandeep was deservingly awarded the Man of the Match.
