History unfolded in the 16th match of the MSL 2018 as Reeza Hendricks became the first batsman to score a century in the league. Although a few others came close earlier, no one really made it to the triple digits. But, the match between Jozi Stars and Durban Heat graced this wonderful occasion. It was indeed a run-fest at the Bull Ring with the home team emerging triumphant along with a bonus point. The Durban Heat are now near elimination after this loss.

The Stars go bonkers after the bowlers

Albie Morkel won the toss on a belter of a pitch and put the Jozi Stars in to bat first. The openers added 99 runs together before Ryan Rickelton was dismissed for 45. The team was off to a flyer initially. However, the spinners, Keshav Maharaj and Brandon Mavuta applied breaks to the innings in the middle overs. It wasn’t easy getting them away. Rassie van der Dussen, after getting 37 runs, was dismissed by Tladi Bokako.

However, the seamers were taken to the cleaners in the last seven overs of the game. 114 runs were scored in these overs with Daniel Christian going bonkers right from ball one. The Aussie got 36 from only 15 balls. Meanwhile, Reeza Hendricks got to his 100 in only 49 balls and was unbeaten on 104 as the Jozi Stars finished with 230/3 in 20 overs.

Kagiso Rabada spits fire with the ball in hand

The Durban Heat had no other option but to go hard after the bowlers in the second innings. In the process, they lost a flurry of wickets right at the top with Kagiso Rabada picking three in the first over. Recovery from this stage was always going to be difficult. Although van Wyk tried hard with 66 off 33, he didn’t have much support from the other end. David Miller and Kyle Abbott with 30 runs each were the next highest run scorers. The Heat were bowled out for 177 in 18.1 overs.

Twitterati bowed down and saluted the genius Reeza Hendricks was on the day. He was just unbelievable and Dan Christian also received a huge praise for his cameo. Kagiso Rabada was another star performer who attracted a lot of buzz.
