Sydney Thunder having already missed the bus to the playoffs would love to close their season with the victory while for Melbourne Renegades a win here would put them in a great spot in the points table. Renegades had a number of changes to the side as Cameron White left them to fulfil national commitment while Brad Hodge injured himself ahead of the game. Usman Khawaja was missing from the Thunder lineup.

Having elected to bat first their openers Marcus Harris and Matthew Short provided the Renegades a decent start as they put on 64 in the powerplay overs. Although they were supported by the opposition fielders who gifted them lives by dropping a couple of catches. Eventually, it was spinner Fawad Ahmed who removed Short with a wrong’un. Harris completed his half-century off just 32 balls before being involved in a mixup while running between the wickets which sent Tom Cooper back to the pavilion.

Small contributions from all the batsmen meant that the Renegades were in a commanding position. Beau Webster’s 18-run innings off just 4 balls in the end, took the score to a par looking 189.

Thunder’s run chase was dented early when opener James Vince failed in the 2nd over for 1 after facing 6 balls. Chris Tremain removed Kurtis Patterson to pick his 2nd for the night to push the Thunder further behind. 33-partnership between skipper Watson and Jay Lenton kept the side in the run chase. Both of them fell in consecutive overs as the Renegades pulled things back.

Suspended from bowling Arjun Nair looked determined with the bat in hand as he along with Ben Roher put on a solid partnership. Nair took the role of the aggressor as he hit 3 sixes in his innings of 45.

Ben Rohrer’s assault

Ben Rohrer after settling in decided to tee off in Jack Wildermuth’s over. He hit 2 sixes and 4 fours in the over and brought the required rate down.

They both fell in the same over of Richardson but Chris Green’s two sixes off skipper Darren Bravo’s over kept them in the game. They needed 14 runs in the last over but Green hit one straight up on the first ball and it was all over. At the end of it, Thunder fell short by 9 runs.
