Indian middle order batsman, Rohit Sharma completed 1000 runs in Test cricket in India’s historic 500th Test match. He achieved the feat on Day 4 of the first of the three-Test series in Kanpur on Sunday, as it helped India post a target of 434 runs against New Zealand.

Rohit Sharma faced some criticism when he threw away his wicket in the first innings, but he silenced his critics in the second innings with a brilliant performance.

The plot was set for Rohit Sharma as India were having a 56-run lead and is at a quite comfortable position when he came out to bat, which helped him to play his shots. Rohit’s fortunes in Test cricket has been quite contrasting to his fortunes in the limited-overs format. After impressing in his first two Tests with hundreds, Rohit had a dismal career so far.

However, it was Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara, who laid the platform for the men in Blue with 76 and 78 runs respectively. Indian skipper Virat Kohli failed for the second time in the match being caught at the deep.

Ravindra Jadeja along with Rohit gave India the momentum towards the end of the innings to take the Indian lead over 400. Rohit Sharma ended being unbeaten on 68 whereas Jadeja scored almost a run-a-ball 50 not out, as India post a total of 377/5 in their second innings. New Zealand needs 434 runs to win in the first Test match and they have four sessions to bat out on a rapidly deteriorating pitch.

Ahead of the match, Rohit Sharma has an average of 32.62 with 946 runs against his name with 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries.
