Twitter Reactions: Ross Taylor falls 10 short of a triple ton

New Zealand were under serious pressure from multiple directions, one they were already down in the series, two Australia put up a huge 559/9 on the board. For the way the Black Caps batsmen played in the first Test, it gave an impression that the hosts had a good chance of recording an innings win at the WACA. But after the openers got out cheaply, their middle order got into the act and both Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor first got their hundreds and then converted it into biggies.
Williamson got out for a superb 166 in 250 balls but even at that moment the job was not done and Taylor kept going and reached his double hundred with that also entering the 5000 Test runs club. He faced one of the fastest and a fierce bowling spell by the Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc during which he bowled the fastest delivery in Test cricket at 160.4kmph a Yorker which Taylor safely negotiated.
He went back to the pavilion unbeaten at the end of 3 batting on 235. As he walked in, to bat on the 4th day wicket, runs kept coming and in little time the excitement grew as Ross approached the hundred mark for 3rd time in this knock, which would have been his first triple hundred in Tests, and the first by a Kiwi batsman outside New Zealand but that was not to be and he was dismissed on 290 c by substitute JW Wells off the bowling of Nathan Lyon after having batted for 374 deliveries.
With that he not only took his team to safety but also helped them overhaul the Australian total and at the end of their innings the Kiwis had 624 runs on the board giving them a 65-run lead.
Ross Taylor’s knock will be remembered for long, for the character he showed and the manner in which he dealt the challenge to record the highest score by a New Zealander outside home. Here is how Twitter reacted to his innings.
