Twitter Reactions: Roy-Root blistering partnership lays foundation for England chase

The Pakistan and England ODI series kickstarted at Southampton. The hosts went on to win the game and lead the series 1-0. Earlier, Captain Azhar Ali won the toss as Pakistan elected to bat first on what seemed like a good batting pitch.

While Sharjeel and Hafeez were dismissed cheaply, the skipper hanged on as he scored a ravishing knock of 82 runs from 110 balls, slow but steady. He was supported well by Babar first and later Sarfaraz who made 55. However, Pakistan faltered later after a rain delay and could only manage 260/6 in their quota of 50 overs.

Leaving Moeen Ali, all the bowlers including Joe Root got a wicket. Adil Rashid got two in the form of Azhar and Babar who were steering Pakistan to a good total.

Hales got out early as he edged a delivery by Gul to slip. From there, both Roy and Root changed gears and turned the tide in England’s favour. Roy scored a quickfire 65 from just 56 balls while Root made an elegant 61(72). Morgan and Stokes took on from where they left and made sure England reached the target safely.

Twitter kept everyone entertained throughout the exciting contest. While Azhar was lauded for a good effort with the bat, Hafeez again got trolled, first for another low score and later for dropping a catch. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game.
