The Chennai Super Kings have soared to the top spot in the points table with a clinical win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They thumped the visiting RCB side by 6 wickets in the day game in Pune. Coming in to the game, the pressure was on the RCB side as they were the more desperate side in the contest. Now, after the game, their desperation has only worsened.

All the remaining games of the season will be must win games for the Virat Kohli-led side if they wish to qualify for the playoffs. Talking about the game, the Chennai Super Kings were set a modest target of 127 to win in the match. The CSK bowlers totally outplayed the mighty RCB batting lineup. In the run chase, the Super Kings took just 18 overs to get over the line.

Earlier in the game, the Chennai Super Kings had won the toss and opted to bowl first. The move worked very well for them as the bowlers dictated terms in the innngs. Lungi Ngidi provided the first breakthrough for the Super Kings by dismissing Brendon McCullum in the second over of the match. Soon, Ravindra Jadeja got into the act and got the big fish, Virat Kohli. AB de Villiers and Mandeep Singh also failed to impress and fell in quick succession.

Amidst all the chaos, Parthiv Patel, held his fort from one end. He scored a very well timed fifty to be the saving grace for his side. After his departure, things only got worse for the visitors as they slumped to 89/8. Parthiv scored 53 off 41 deliveries in the game. More embarrassment could have come in for Royal Challengers Bangalore had Tim Southee not played an unbeaten 36 off 26 in the end. Southee’s efforts helped RCB post 127/9 on the board. Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for CSK with 3/16 to his name.

In the run chase, CSK lost Shane Watson early but the innings found some steady movement with Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina chipping in with 32 and 25 respectively. Towards the end, it was an MS Dhoni special that sealed the fate of the game for his side. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 31 off 23 deliveries to ensure a 6-wicket win for Chennai Super Kings.
