After a loss for the national team the previous day, this match would have definitely made the whole of India smile. It was a day that took everyone in nostalgia mode. From Sachin Tendulkar’s straight drive to Yuvraj Singh hitting four sixes in a row it was something the whole of India had missed.

South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first. While the result of the toss did go in their favor, the match was largely owned by the Indian team. Virender Sehwag lost his wicket early but Sachin along with Badrinath formed a great partnership. The master blaster scored a brilliant 60 off 37 balls which included a variety of shots.

Soon after his dismissal, Badrinath was retired hurt due to an injury he faced. Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan were then at the crease. Pathan started attacking from the word go and played a good cameo of 23 runs in just 10 balls. Yuvi who had taken his time early on went into beast mode post his partner’s dismissal. He went from being on 15 runs in 13 balls to score his fifty in just 21 balls. It was vintage Yuvraj on display for the fans.

Yuvraj Singh’s all-round performance wins the game for the Indian side

The Indian team managed to score 80 runs in the last five overs to reach a total of 204 runs at the end of their 20 overs. South Africa were guilty of dropping multiple catches due to which the bowling figures look pretty ordinary. Monde Zondeki though secured two wickets conceding 35 runs in his three overs.

Chasing a huge target of 205, the African team actually got off to a pretty good start. They lost their first wicket in the 11th over when the score was 87. The base had been laid and it was now time for the rest of the batsmen to finish it off. However, both the openers were dismissed in their forties in quick succession to put India in the driver’s seat. Morne van Wyk was the top scorer with 48 runs.

The rest of the batting line-up failed to counter the Indian spinners and finished off with a score of 148-7 in their 20 overs. Yusuf Pathan took three wickets while Yuvraj got two to his name. With this win, India secured their spot in the semi-finals. A win by 56 runs would definitely boost their confidence ahead of the knockout games.
