It has been quite a big wait for the Indians for a medal at the Rio Olympics and finally it came from Sakshi Malik who won the bronze in the Women’s Freestyle 58 kg category with a spirited comeback victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan.
In a thrilling contest, Sakshi fought back from 0-5 to 8-5 to seal the match in her favour. She doesn’t start off well conceding 5 points very early in the contest, but fought back and levelled the scores with few seconds remaining in the match. She produced a three-point move in the last seconds to seal the bout and India’s first medal at Rio 2016 Olympics, which was reviewed by the opponent, but it doesn’t make any difference to the score line, which reads 8-5.
Coming into the bronze medal match, Malik reached the Repechage rounds of the women’s freestyle 58kg event and made most of the second life she got as she outplayed Mongolian wrestler Orkhon in the round 2 contest 12-3 to advance to the bronze-medal match.

Malik got another chance at a medal after her quarterfinal opponent Valeria Koblova reached the gold medal match.
