After their victory against the Supernovas in Jaipur, the Trailblazers couldn’t hold on to their winning momentum. The team, led by Smriti Mandhana, lost to the Mithali Raj-captained Velocity by three wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Their triumph came with 12 balls to spare. The result of the game means that the last match between the Velocity and the Supernovas hold prime importance.
Harleen- The Trailblazers’ lone warrior
Velocity did an excellent job after putting their opponents to bat first as the Trailblazers could only manage 112 for six in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana carried on from where she left against the Supernovas and smacked a couple of fours. But she knicked one-off speedster Shikha Pandey to perish after scoring 10 runs. Thereafter, Suzie Bates and Harleen Deol tried to inject momentum into the innings.
The duo added 35 runs off 36 balls and Ekta Bisht broke the stand, dismissing Bates, who ended with a 22-ball 26. Stefanie Taylor had a painful stint in the middle, having scored an 18-ball five. However, Harleen kept the scoreboard ticking. She notched 43 off 40 balls with the help of five boundaries. Amelia Kerr picked up a couple of wickets in the penultimate over. Bisht was also decent with two wickets.
Shefali and Wyatt play well
Hayley Matthews and Shefali Verma took Velocity off to a reasonable start, adding 25 off 29 balls. Matthews hit a four but played 12 dots after which Deepti Sharma castled her. The Trailblazers were also lacklustre in the field as both Matthews and Shefali were dropped once. Bates misfielded one in the deep that cost her team four runs. Verma played her strokes and racked up a crucial 31-ball 34.
Harleen delivered with the ball as well, getting rid of Shefali. Danielle Wyatt trod the aggressive route and didn’t allow any pressure to build whatsoever. She smacked five boundaries and two sixes and scored 46 runs off 35 balls. Mithali Raj batted at number four and she rotated the strike to score 17 off 22 deliveries. Deepti churned out a few late wickets, but it was never going to be enough for the Trailblazers to win.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Velocity’s win in the contest:

15-yr-old Shafali Verma took some of the most established bowlers in women's cricket from around the world TO THE CLEANERS.
Shafali is only a glimpse into what a FULL-FLEDGED #WIPL can do to INDW's cricket.
Well done, #WomensT20Challenge

Shefali Verma's intent is just refreshing considering majority of these domestic Indian batters are from Mithali school of batting..
And she is just 15 years of age & a wicketkeeper… Could be our version of Alyssa Healy 🙂 #WomensT20Challenge— Abhijith S (@Abhi_mania) May 8, 2019

Given Harleen Deol, too, is a 'Kaur', I've just found another reason to revive the #KerrvKaur hashtag.
Harleen Kaur Deol v Amelia 'world-record-holder' Kerr in their first face-off:
18 runs off 11 balls at a strike rate of 163.63.
Kerr had Deol hole out for 43.— Annesha Ghosh (@ghosh_annesha) May 8, 2019
