St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, on Sunday, secured their third victory of the ongoing edition of the CPL. The Dwayne Bravo-led unit defeated the Guyana Amazon Warriors by six wickets at Warner Park. In the meantime, the Warriors have lost back-to-back games and are placed fourth in the table.
Hafeez and Hetmyer take charge for the Warriors
After electing to bat first, the Warriors got off to a steady start as they scored 46 runs in the powerplay. Fabian Allen struck first blood after he got rid of Chandrapaul Hemraj for 14. However, a 101-run stand between opener Mohammad Hafeez and Shimron Hetmyer injected momentum.
Hetmyer was the more attacking of the two as he scored a 35-ball 52 with three fours and as many sixes. Hafeez scored 70 off 59 with seven fours and one six, making sure that the Warriors post 166 for three in 20 overs. Paul van Meekeren was excellent as he ended with figures of 4-0-23-2.
Rutherford wreaks havoc
The Patriots started on a positive note, having notched 49 runs in the powerplay. Devon Thomas and Evin Lewis scored in the 30s to lay the platform for the run-chase. Asif Ali perished cheaply as well. However, Sherfane Rutherford and skipper Bravo took charge after the fall of three quick wickets.
Bravo played the sheet-anchor’s role as he made 22 in the 72-run partnership. However, Rutherford stayed unbeaten on 59 off 34 with one four and six sixes. His knock made sure that the Patriots got home with four balls left. Imran Tahir picked up two wickets for 26 runs, but his efforts went in vain.
It gives us belief as a group: Dwayne Bravo
Pooran, the Warriors’ skipper, said that his team couldn’t get the score they wanted to. Bravo, on the other hand, was delighted with the bowlers’ performance on the day.
“I thought 166 was a good total, we fell short by 10-15 runs. St Kitts bowled really well at the back end. We just had to stick to our plans, we should have bowled more into the wicket, we gave some freebies to their batsmen. We didn’t execute as a team today,” Pooran said.
“With a victory like this, it gives us belief as a group. At the halfway stage we were the happier team. The way our bowlers pulled it back, was encouraging. Drakes has been outstanding for us, the leader of our pack. Paul (van Meekeren) contributed with the ball too,” Bravo said.
Here’s how the netizens reacted to the Patriots’ victory
Not the first time Sherfane Rutherford has been impressive in recent times, WI management surely needs to keep him in their plans again.

Sherfane Sherfane Sherfane Rutherford, One of those players who proved me wrong. The maturity with which He & Tim is batting is what seperates Them from Our hitters. Brilliant & Responsible. Knows their limitations yet win the games on touch pitches. 🤩 #CPL2021 #HeroCPL

This CPL has really shown me that the hunger for WI cricket is still alive
With the T20 World Cup lingering later this year, it is amazing to see the performances so far of Sherfane Rutherford and Oshane Thomas, who have been on the outside but are making a huge impact at #CPL21

What a win from the Patriots – no easy feat chasing down 167 but they did it with ease in the end.
Sherfane Rutherford is finally showing the Caribbean audience why his name should be in the WC squad.
Increasing maturity from the young man.
Thats 3 wins from 3 now for #SKNP
