The Delhi Daredevils have lost their plot big time in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. Nothing seems to be going there way this season. They lost five out of their first six games in 2018. Hence, when they arrived in Delhi for their second home game of the season, they knew they were under some serious pressure. In order to qualify for the playoffs, the team needs to win 7 out of their remaining 8 fixtures.

The first among those 8 games kicked off in Delhi with the hosts taking on the Kolkata Knight Riders. To make things tougher for the home side, their hitherto skipper Gautam Gambhir had stepped down as the captain of the side prior to this game. While the scene looked precarious, the newly-appointed captain of Delhi Daredevils, Shreyas Iyer, saw this as an opportunity to excel.

Coming to the game, the Knight Riders had the upper hand when it came to the recent form. Also, in the reverse fixture this season, they had convincingly beaten the Doubles Ds. As the match stands at the half way stage in this game, things look evenly balanced. Delhi will have to bowl to their best efforts to ensure they take their revenge against the Knight Riders.

In the match, the KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik won the toss and opted to bowl first. The DD camp stunned everyone by dropping Gambhir from the playing eleven. Despite the big change, the Daredevils got off to a flying start in the game with openers Colin Munro and Prithvi Shaw adding 59 runs for the first wicket. Shivam Mavi provided the first breakthrough for the Knight Riders by cleaning up Munro on 33 (18) in the 7th over.

While Munro perished early, Shaw continued to play an excellent knock. He went on to score his maiden IPL fifty, and in the process, became the youngest player to score an IPL fifty. Shaw perished after scoring 62 off 44 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes to his name. His dismissal was followed by a golden duck for Rishabh Pant. The innings could have imploded there itself, as has been the case with DD throughout the season. But Shreyas Iyer held the fort for the Daredevils in the game.

Iyer was very well supported by Glenn Maxwell. Iyer built his innings with perfection and hammered an unbeaten 93 off just 40 deliveries with 3 fours and 10 sixes to his name. He milked Shivam Mavi for 29 runs in the final over as Delhi Daredevils finished with 219/4 in their stipulated 20 overs.
