South Africa took on Sri Lanka in a dead rubber since both the teams had already crashed out of the tournament. At the Feroze Shah Kotla in Delhi, the Proteas captain Faf du Plessis won the toss as he chose to field first. South Africa brought in Dale Steyn, Aaron Phangiso and Rilee Rossouw while Sri Lanka had Shehan Jayasuriya and Suranga Lakmal coming in.
Sri Lanka began strongly with 45 runs in just 4.4 overs. But as Chandimal 21 (20) got out, the Lankan middle order faltered as they were all out for just 120 failing to last even the quota of 20 overs. Dilshan top scored with 36 (40) as the Lankans lacked to show any firepower. Phangiso, Abbott and Behardien, all took two wickets apiece while a couple accounted to run-out.
South Africa lost Quinton de Kock early but Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis carried on smoothly as they took South Africa to a winning position. Du Plessis became a victim of an umpiring howler but the Delhi crowd was pleased to see de Villiers bat. Amla scored a superb half century as South Africa won the game comfortably by 8 wickets with 14 balls to spare.
Aaron Phangiso was rightly declared the man of the match for his superb bowling which led to the Sri Lankan batting collapse. Both teams will now head home after failing to qualify for the semi-finals. Twitteraties surprisingly took much interest in the no contest game and put up some hilarious and enthralling tweets.

South African coach's role should be to convince the players that they have been knocked out of the WC before each match #SAvSL

Even umpire S Ravi wanted to see AB De Villiers bat. #SAvSL

That decision is a straight-out shocker. Massive edge, hit him outside the line anyway. Umpires just keen to get AB in for the local fans?

How a team handles transition is a reflection of how robust their domestic cricket structure is… #SL might just struggle a lot more #WT20

The defending champions are playing one of the pre-tournament favourites. Take out the context and it becomes a drag! #SAvsSL

Chandimal at the #WT20: 18(17), 16(18), 1(3), 21(20). Eats up a lot of balls, doesn't go on & scores only @ 100. #SL
