Despite the change in leadership, there was nothing changed at the Buffalo Park with Bangladesh putting a below-par performance against the No.1 ODI side South Africa. South Africa, kept on their momentum and rolled over the visiting side in another record win.
While Bangladesh looked to win a match away from home, it never looked like a possibility that the Asian side would take home a victory with the weakened batting order at the absence of the opener Tamim Iqbal. Batting first, the Proteas got off to the best of starts, with Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock knocking the ball to all parts of the park with some extravagant shots.
The opening partnership crossed 100 runs, within 18 overs to give the platform for the middle order to cash in. Offie Mehidy Hasan struck first with the wicket of Bavuma before picking up the wicket of the in-form batsman de Kock.
Skipper Faf du Plessis and Aiden Markram took advantage of the foundation set by the openers, with a very fiery partnership. Miscommunication between the duo, led to the run-out of the well-set Markram while Faf went on with his innings. Unfortunately, skipper du Plessis fell short of his century by nine runs. However, a quickfire innings from Kagiso Rabada took the total to 369 runs at the loss of six wickets in their fifty overs.
Bangladesh’s reply:
Twitter erupted at the reply of the away side, with the first three wickets falling as the score read 20 runs. Bangladesh openers Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar were dismissed within the first five overs to take away any chance that the visitors had with the total. Former skipper Mushfiqur Rahman too did not have a good outing, as he got out for just eight runs.
However, lone innings from the left-handed batsman Shakib-Al-Hassan put some smile on the face of the visiting fans on an otherwise dull day for the visitors. Sabbir Rahman too gave some support for the all-rounder as the other batsmen failed to get any connection with their bat. The away side lost their ten wickets for a total of 169, to get brutally trolled by the Twitterati.
This is how Twitter had reacted to Bangladesh’s reply to South Africa’s high scoring first innings, and Faf Du Plessis innings got the fans crazy on Twitter:
