In a thrilling encounter at Cape Town, South Africa completed a 5-0 whitewash against the visitors. Earlier in the game, it was Faf du Plessis who won the toss as the Proteas elected to bat first. The Australians had already lost the series and the game was a dead rubber but certainly didn’t fall short of any entertainment.

Batting first, South Africa lost a flurry of wickets with the top order flopping as they were reduced to 52/3. From there on, Rilee Rossouw took the honours of guiding the hosts from the early slump as he went on to score a staggering hundred.

He along with JP Duminy who also played a gritty knock of 73 put on a partnership of 178 runs for the fourth wicket. David Miller tried to give the finishing touches before the tailenders were sent back to the pavilion in a jiffy.

In the end, South Africa managed to put up a good total of 327/8 in their quota of 50 overs. Mennie was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 49 runs. Tremain also got 3 wickets but went for runs. Boland managed to sneak in a couple of wickets while Marsh, Head and even Zampa went wicketless.

With the target being 328, the Australians backed themselves to chase it down with David Warner showing them the way with his swashbuckling innings. While the visitors collapsed from 72/0 to 75/3, Warner continued to inspire a possible victory with a magnanimous 173 runs from just 136 ball.

While his innings surprisingly didn’t have a single six, it had 24 boundaries as he displayed his swagger at the crease. However, he hardly found support from any other batsman. As he returned back to the dugout, the game was already lost.

Tahir and Abbott bowled well and managed to get a couple of wickets each. Rabada also got two wickets but was expensive. Steyn who went for 13 in his first over made a good comeback in the later spell. Warner was deservingly announced the man of the match for his knock while Rossouw was awarded the player of the series.

Twitter kept everyone entertained in the nerve-wracking game between the two supergiants in cricket. Right from lauding Rossouw to trolling the inexperienced Australian bowling lineup, right from lauding Warner to trolling 12th man Hastings.
