Southern Brave have managed to cross the first round after beating the Oval Invincibles by six wickets at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. However, whether they will play the final or the Eliminator as their next fixture is yet to be decided. If the Birmingham Phoenix win their next game against the Northern Superchargers, the Brave will have to play the Eliminator on Friday.

Brave make a comeback after Jacks blazes away

Even if the game gets washed off, the Phoenix will topple the Brave on a superior net rate. As far as Monday’s match was concerned, the Brave found themselves in trouble after Will Jacks’ 13-ball 39 with five fours and three sixes. George Garton dismissed him to give the Brave some breather.

Thereafter, the Invincibles’ innings lost quite a bit of momentum. Jake Lintott picked up three wickets for a mere 14 runs to put the Brave on the driver’s seat. For the visitors, Alex Blake stayed unbeaten on 44 runs off 28 balls. His knock helped the Invincibles post 134 runs on the board.

Davies, Grandhomme stand tall

In the run-chase, the Brave lost the early wickets of Quinton de Kock and Paul Stirling. James Vince got 13 but was unfortunately run out. Garton smashed two sixes on his way to a 17-ball 23 before being run out. From there on, Alex Davies and Colin de Grandhomme took charge of the team.

They put on 67 runs for the sixth wicket to see their team over the finishing line. Even as Davies stayed unbeaten on 40, De Grandhomme stayed not out on 40 off 28 with two sixes. In the end, the Brave chased the target down with five balls to spare and moved on top of the points table.

After the win, Vince, the Brave’s skipper, stated that his team made a comeback after losing the early wickets. He also lauded the bowlers for restricting the opposition team to an under-par score.

“Little bit tricky there in losing early wickets. Delighted to be there and we will wait and see what happens. We knew they were going to come hard, credit to the way we came back, all the bowlers gave us an under-par score to chase,” Vince said.
