Bangladesh went to Sri Lanka with little confidence, as they were beaten comprehensively by India. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, were returning home after series of tours. Fatigue would have had a part to play but that was not the case. Sri Lanka batted excellently in the first innings. Though their openers were sent packing earlier than they should have but this young side with a pinch of experience played some beautiful cricket.

Kusal Mendis batted his guts out as he hit Bangladesh all over the ground. He scored briskly and ensured the Lankans never lost momentum. Mendis scored a massive 194 in the first innings. He and the newest star Asela Gunaratne stitched a huge 196-run partnership before Gunaratne was halted in his march. The wicketkeeper Dickwella also scored a 75 as he and Mendis added another 110 runs.

The Lankans finished the innings with 494 runs on the board. Mehedi Hasan grabbed four wickets. In reply, Bangladesh got off to a superb start. The inexperience of the Sri Lankan side was just about showing itself until Herath and Perera ran havoc. After an 118 run opening stand, Bangladesh couldn’t build a proper partnership. Mushfiqur Rahim, the Bangladeshi skipper top scored with 85 as the star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan failed to impress.

The tigers were mauled by the Lankans as they grabbed an 182 run lead in the first innings. Sri Lanka came out all guns blazing in the second innings as they scored at a good rate. The veteran Upul Tharanga showed his class and experience for his steady century. He top-scored in the second innings as Sri Lanka declared their innings at 274 for six leaving Bangladesh 457 to win.

Bangladesh got off to a bad start as they lost Tamim Iqbal for 17 and Mominul Haque for just 5. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals as they were bowled out for just a 197. The Sri Lankan skipper, Rangana Herath snatched six wickets to win it for the Lankans. Sri Lanka registered a humongous 259 run victory over their Asian counterparts.

Twitteratis, as always were at it again. There were congratulatory tweets as well as some humorous tweets as well. Here are the some of the tweets on Sri Lanka’s thumping of Bangladesh.
