Royal Challengers Bangalore who were playing their last game at the Chinnaswamy stadium continued to disappoint their fans. It was yet another poor day for them on the field, summing up their whole season. As for Kolkata Knight Riders, they marched into a better position to qualify for the playoffs.
Earlier in the day, it was captain Gautam Gambhir who won the toss as Kolkata Knight Riders elected to field first. Chris Lynn was back in the KKR mix in place of Nathan Coulter-Nile. Ankit Rajpoot and Piyush Chawla were brought in place of Suryakumar Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav.
Chris Gayle got out for a golden duck in his 100th game in the IPL. Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers were also dismissed cheaply as RCB were left reeling at 34/3. Before it could get any more shambles, Travis Head and Mandeep Singh stitched a supreme partnership to take out RCB from the mess.
While Mandeep Singh scored a gritty half-century it was Travis Head who stood out with an outstanding knock of 75 runs from 47 balls, an innings which had 3 boundaries and 5 maximums. No other batsman managed to inspire any confidence as RCB managed to post a total of 158/7 in their quota of 20 overs.
Umesh Yadav managed to take three wickets while Sunil Narine was also exceptional with figures of 2/29. Chris Woakes also managed to get the wicket of Kedhar Jadhav but was expensive. However, a total of 159 didn’t seem quite threatening for the KKR batsmen.
For a change, it wasn’t Captain Gautam Gambhir opening. Indeed there were two hard hitting batsmen Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine who walked in and did exactly what was expected from them. In what was a sensational display of pinch hitting, both combined for an unbelievable 105 runs in just 6 overs.
While Sunil Narine scored a magnificent 54 runs from just 17 balls with 6 boundaries and 4 sixes, Chris Lynn was no lesser with an excellent 50 runs from 22 balls with 5 boundaries and 4 sixes. Much lesser contribution was needed from the other batsmen as KKR went on to win the game by 6 wickets with almost 5 overs to spare.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game.

Can't help but think that Bradman and the rest of the cricketing gods are punishing AB de Villers for choosing not to play test cricket.
