The second match of the double-header day in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) took place between the Jaffna Stallions and the Kandy Tuskers. The former had won both their matches while the latter had won only one out of their three games. Thisara Perera won the toss and decided that the Stallions would bat first.

They did not get off to the start they would’ve liked as their score was 26-2 at the end of the powerplay. Losing both the openers in the powerplay never helps and to add to that, they lost another couple of wickets in the next four overs. After the end of 9.3 overs their score was 49-4.

This is where the turnaround took place. Dhananjaya de Silva and Thisara Perera took the attack to the opposition. Both of them formed a brilliant partnership with the former scoring 61 in 38 balls while Perera scored 68 in 28 balls. Perera has now proved his worth in two consecutive matches and seems like a man on a mission. They helped their team reach a score of 185-8 in 20 overs.

Tuskers face their third defeat in four games

Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed both the men in form off consecutive deliveries as he ended with three wickets in his four overs. A target of 186 was a stiff one but Tuskers definitely had the batting line-up to chase it down. They had a good powerplay in terms of runs however they lost a couple of wickets more than what they would’ve liked. Their score read 61-3 at the end of the first six overs and a lot of work was still to be done.

Brendon Taylor once again looked in fine form as he scored 46 runs off 32 balls. However, post his dismissal it just went downhill for the Kandy side. Gunaratne scored 31 runs off 24 deliveries but got no support from the other end.

The Tuskers were eventually bowled out after scoring 131 runs in 17.1 overs. They lost by a margin of 54 runs which is huge in T20 cricket. Usman Shinwari was the pick of the bowlers as he took three wickets conceding just 17 runs in his three overs. Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera, and Wanindu Hasaranga got two wickets to their name.
Perera was awarded as man of the match for his brilliant effort with both bat and ball.
