After witnessing quite a few high scoring and nail-biting games in this edition of the CPL, we’ve finally seen a low-scoring game providing the fans with as much entertainment. The Jamaica Tallawahs were up against the Barbados Tridents at Lauderhill in Florida. The visitors won the game by just two runs and left the audience on the edges of their seats throughout.

Jamaica Tallawahs have lost all the three games they played at Lauderhill after having got off to a dream start in the tournament. They’ve now fallen to the third place on the points table while the Tridents get another important two points. Steve Smith was the star in this game, both with the bat and the ball helping his team bag this cracker jacker on an encounter.

Steve Smith and Shai Hope come to the rescue

The Tridents were put into bat first by the Tallawahs. However, they didn’t have the ideal start to the innings. The openers Dwayne Smith and Hashim Amla, after scoring 18 and 15 runs respectively couldn’t carry on with the start. Soon, Oshane Thomas dismissed the dangerous Martin Guptill for a duck. On a track that was difficult to bat on, Steve Smith applied himself beautifully.

The former Aussie skipper scored 63 off just 44 balls at a strike rate above 140. He built a good partnership along with Shai Hope, who scored 43 off 35 balls as the Tridents scored 156 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Tallawahs’ skipper Andre Russell picked two wickets with the ball.

Raymond Reifer defends 9 runs off the last over

Although 156 might seem like a below-par total, it was never going to be easy. The ball was stopping on the dual-paced track. However, the Tallawahs made the most of the new ball and the openers got them off to a good start. The team scored 80 in just 9 overs without losing a wicket and were cruising along quite comfortably.

At this moment, Jason Holder pulled off a masterstroke by handing the ball over to Steve Smith. The leggie dismissed both the openers in the same over. Soon, Mohammad Irfan picked the wicket of Kennar Lewis getting his team right back into the game. Although Ross Taylor and David Miller ensured that they didn’t lose any wickets further, they couldn’t get their side through as stroke making got even more difficult with the older ball. Raymond Reifer bowled a dream last over where he defended 9 runs and helped his team win by a minimal 2 runs.

Twitterati was extremely proud and happy to see Steve Smith do so well both with the bat as well as the ball. Raymond Reifer was drenched in praise for the unbelievable last over that he bowled. Ross Taylor and David Miller were trolled for not finishing the game off.
