Twitter Reactions: Twitter mocks Billy Bowden for umpiring error

Pakistani cricketers were left livid and stunned after umpire Billy Bowden committed a blunder during the 3rd ODI at Eden Park, Auckland. The incident happened in the 37th over when Rahat Ali screamed for a caught behind appeal. Corey Anderson was the man in question after he failed to connect a cross batted shot against the left-arm fast bowler. The bowler and the wicket-keeper were quick to appeal strongly but Bowden was unmoved and turned down the appeal.

Pakistan could not review the decision as they had already exhausted the one permitted challenge they had. The ‘Snicko’ later confirmed that the ball had actually nicked the bat. The Blackcaps all-rounder was on 17 at that stage.

The upset did not end here as Corey Anderson rubbed salt on the wound by smashing two consecutive sixes off the following deliveries. Anderson went on to score a crucial 35 from 29 balls, helping the home side win by 3 wickets in the end with two balls to spare and end the series with a 2-0 scoreline.

The Kiwis were set a target of 291 runs to chase by Pakistan. The hosts lost Brendon McCullum very early, but Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson took the hosts to get a comfortable situation in the chase. Pakistan fancied a chance after the rain interrupted the game, causing the match to be reduced to the 43 overs a side match with the Kiwis requiring 53 from 45 balls.

However, there were no surprises as New Zealand did not have any problems in finishing the remaining task soon after resuming from the rain break and winning the match to seal the three-match ODI series 2-0.
