Paceman Mohammad Amir is set to make his comeback to the Pakistan team after being selected on Friday for an upcoming series in New Zealand, months after completing a five-year spot-fixing ban.
His inclusion in the Twenty20I and one-day international squads was in a spot of bother following a potential hurdle given Amir’s criminal conviction for his role in arranging deliberate no-balls during Pakistan’s tour of England in 2010. The scandal, which also involved the then Pakistan captain Salman Butt and fellow bowler Mohammad Asif, shook the world and had a big impact on the players future.
Before the ban, Amir was regarded as the new kid on the block, having taken 51 wickets in 14 Tests and 25 in 15 ODIs. Amir’s return was expected after performed remarkably well in the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League which earned him a call to the Pakistan national team camp. However, his selection depended on getting the visa from the New Zealand government. If he had failed to get it, Mohammad Irfan would have made the cut for the tour.
There were reports that former skipper Mohammad Hafeez was reluctant to share the dressing room with the tainted player. But everything fell in place after the fast bowler attended the conditioning camp. Amir last represented Pakistan against England at Lord’s in the year 2010. He took six wickets for 84 runs in the first innings. Pakistan went on to lose the game and possible reports about match-fixing started to hit the wall.
The world of Twitter had a lot to say on his inclusion and hence we are here to take a look at all the tweets that were on offer.
