After a thriller the previous night it was time for another game in the Road Safety World Series. It was a game between two Asian sides as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh locked horns against each other. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. It was a surprising decision as most of the team’s winning the toss in a T20 match opt to bowl first.
However, the Lankan batsman proved this decision right as they went on to score a total of 180 runs in their 20 overs. Their captain Tillakaratne Dilshan gave them a good start with the bat as he scored 33 runs off 23 balls. Sanath Jayasuriya has some trouble with his hamstring and was declared retired hurt soon after his partner’s dismissal.
If Sri Lanka managed to reach 180 it was due to the brilliance of Upul Tharanga. He single-handedly took them to a total that was beyond the reach of the Bangladesh side. He finished with an unbeaten 99 and fell just one run short of what would have been an outstanding hundred. His knock came off only 47 balls and included 11 boundaries and five sixes.
Dilshan does the job with the ball in hand
Chamara Silva played a good supporting knock scoring 24 runs at a run a ball but the rest of the batting line-up failed to make an impact. Mohammad Rafique and Abdur Razzak were impressive for the Bangladeshi side. On a day when the other bowlers were hit around the park, these two proved to be very economical.
Chasing 181 was always going to be a very tough ask for the Bangladesh side. Their openers did get them off to a good start as they were involved in a 57 run partnership. However, post that there was no significant partnership and they just kept losing wickets from time to time. Nazimuddin played a good knock as he scored 54 runs off 41 balls.
Dilshan was the pick of the bowlers for the Lankan side as he dismissed three out of the top four batsmen. He ended with three wickets conceding only 21 runs in his four overs. Dhammika Prasad too did very well as he took two wickets conceding only 22 runs. Bangladesh finished with a score of 138/6 at the end of their 20 overs and lost the game by 42 runs.
