Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul stole the show in his side’s second encounter in the IPL. Facing Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rahul took bowlers to cleaners with his whirlwind knock. RCB’s bowling unit was left hapless, especially in the last four overs where it conceded as many as 74 runs.

Rahul wreaked havoc in the death overs and smacked boundaries all over the park. Scoring 132 off 69 deliveries, he left bowlers gasping for breath at Dubai International Stadium. RCB had no answers to Rahul’s batting show as he smoked 14 fours and 7 sixes in his scintillating knock.

The KXIP skipper went berserk in the penultimate over which was bowled by South Africa’s Dale Steyn. Nullifying the South African’s pace, Rahul smacked him for 26 runs and hit him for 3 sixes and 2 fours. On the back of Rahul’s fireworks, Punjab amassed a dominant 206-run total on the board.

Twitter, in no time, lauded Rahul’s heroics and explosive batting display. But the other side’s skipper–Virat Kohli– was on the radar of many trollers. It was an unusual sight as Kohli, considered an exemplary fielder, dropped two vital catches on the field.

Virat Kohli’s dropped catches eventually proved costly

Kohli first dropped Rahul’s catch on the last delivery of the 17th over. Kohli, standing in the deep, moved to his right but overran a bit to drop an important chance. It eventually proved to be a costly mistake as Rahul went bonkers in the subsequent overs.

RCB had another chance to dismiss Rahul on the last ball of 18th over. However, he was dropped again and the fielder was none other than Kohli. It was an easier catch compared to the previous one but Kohli, standing at long-off, gave another lifeline to Rahul. It might be because of the dew but the RCB skipper committed another expensive mistake.

Kohli’s two dropped catches were a topic of hot debate on Twitter. Considering his on-field agility and fitness levels, Kohli’s woeful fielding show came in as a shock for many fans. To make things worse, the RCB captain also failed to deliver with his willow in the second innings. The 31-year-old was dismissed off a shortish delivery bowled by Sheldon Cottrell. He lofted it into the air while trying to pull the delivery, handing it straight into the hands of Ravi Bishnoi.

Here’s how fans trolled Virat Kohli:
