Indian Test captain Virat Kohli was handed over the ICC Test mace. A resounding 3-0 win took India to the top of the ICC Test rankings. The trophy is regarded as a symbol of authority and prestige. This is considered as an appropriate combination given the rich history of Test cricket and its image as the most traditional form of the game. Virat Kohli became the 10th captain to be handed the prestigious mace. MS Dhoni was the first Indian captain to collect the accolade.

The micro-blogging site Twitter took a heavy liking to the occasion. The twitterati world came up with some hilarious tweets on the occasion. Some found it as the ideal platform to congratulate the team. But there were others, who saw the humorous side of it too. Pakistan, who had received the mace a month ago, would surely be disheartened at losing it. Not to mention, Pakistan had won the mace after India’s final Test against West Indies was washed out.

Had India won the final Test there, they would have raced to the top and Pakistan would have never got the mace. Pakistan’s stay at top was short lived. India had secured the top spot at the rankings when they won the second Test at Kolkata. However, as per the rules, the rankings get updated only after a series ends. Now with the win at Indore India have moved to the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Test team rankings.

India won the final Test by 321 runs to seal the series 3-0. On receiving the ICC Test mace, Kohli expressed the feeling to be a delighting one. He said he always saw it on the television as a kid and now proudly holds it as a captain. He cited that this is what the team plays for. He quoted, “To be recognised as the best in the traditional form of the game is as good as it gets for any team and stuff that dreams are made of.”
