Virat Kohli’s century drought has been further extended by at least two more days after the India skipper failed to touch the triple-digit mark in his latest outing. The 32-year old has not scored an ODI century since his twin hundreds against West Indies in August 2019. Kohli has not scored a century in international cricket since 489 days.

One of the most prolific century makers in international cricket, Kohli scored last of his 71 centuries in November 2019 during the historic day-night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. Kohli’s latest failure to score a century came in the ongoing second ODI against England at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

The India skipper came out to bat in just the fourth over after Shikhar Dhawan departed for just 4. As usual, Kohli started on a positive note and looked in good touch just like the first ODI. The right-handed batsman mixed caution with aggression to keep the scoreboard ticking at a good rate. He reached his fifty off 62 balls.

It was Kohli’s fourth consecutive fifty in international cricket. It was also the seventh occasion when Kohli scored four or more centuries in a row. On the very next delivery after reaching his fifty, he launched Adil Rashid for a six to make his intentions clear. But just when it looked like the India star would finally score his 72nd century, Rashid ended his knock.

Trying to cut a length delivery, Kohli went on the backfoot but failed to make a good connection. He could only edge the ball behind the stumps to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. The skipper departed for 66 off 79 balls. His innings was laced with three fours and a six. As Kohli failed to score a century once again, the fans took to Twitter to react to it.

Here are some of the reactions:

India set for a big total

Talking about the game, India were on 231 for 4 in the 42nd over at the time of compiling this report. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were batting at the moment. India are leading the three-match series after winning the series-opener by 66 runs. A win in the ongoing game will see India clinch the series with a match remaining.
