After winning the toss, West Indies decided to field on a batting-friendly pitch at Wankhede. Jason Roy and Alex Hales began well before Russell got Roy’s wicket. Joe Root then put up a phenomenal display with the bat as he hit 48(36) with 2 sixes and 3 boundaries to his name.
Jos Buttler 30(20) and Eoin Morgan 27(14)* then garnered a late show for the Englishmen with their quick cameos. This lifted their total to 182-6.
It was not going to be easy chasing 183 but West Indies had vowed to chase it. After losing Charles early, Samuels scored a splendid 37 off just 27 balls and thus propelling the West Indies score to 55-1 in the powerplay.
England’s chances of success were always going to rest on containing Gayle and, at first, he was kept quiet by only facing 18 of the first 48 balls in the West Indies innings.
However, he exploded to life by hitting Adil Rashid for two sixes over long on. Then the Gaylestorm took over Wankhede and as usual, the audience became the fielders while the fielders turned into spectators. He smashed Moeen Ali for three consecutive sixes as well.
Gayle struck 11 sixes in his destructive 47 ball century as West Indies reached their target of 183 with 11 balls to spare. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the match between England and West Indies.

England shows why consistency & partnerships help. No fifties. But still 9 sixes hit. All SR at 100 plus. Decent 182 on board #ENGvWI #WT20

Topley makes me more nervous than any England bowler since Dernbach, and I am not sure that is very fair

The thing about Chris Gayle is that his smaller six goes into the upper pavilion and his bigger ones almost go to the Arabian sea. #ENGvWI
