At one point Yasir had the chance to pick a hat-trick which would’ve been the first by a Pakistan bowler since 2002.

The Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st Test was moving at snail’s pace for the most part of the first four days but towards the end of Day 4 the Pakistani spinners stunned the Lankans and one after the other Yasir Shah, Asad Shafiq and Haris Sohail sent the top 4 batsmen back into the hut and it was game on.

Sri Lanka started the day at 69/4 with Kusal Mendis on 16 and Suranga Lakmal batting on 2. Mendis couldn’t survive the initial burst from the pacers and was debutant Mohammad Abbas’ first wicket in the second innings. Lakmal also departed soon and was scalped by the same bowler caught by Babar Azam.

Thereafter it was a Yasir Shah show as the leg-spinner didn’t allow the Lankans any breathing space. The wicket was assisting him and he plucked one wicket after other. But Niroshan Dickwella wasn’t willing to give it up and defied the Pakistani bowlers for 76 deliveries to score 40 before he ran out of partners.

His knock saved some grace for the visitors and gave them a total to bowl with in the last innings. At one point Yasir had the chance to pick a hat-trick which would’ve been the first by a Pakistan bowler since 2002. He ended the Lankan innings with a 5-wicket haul as their second essay was folded up for 138.

Pakistan now have a target of 136 to win the game and though it looks a pretty mediocre score the wicket is turning square and Rangana Herath has enough tricks up his sleeves to keep the hosts at bay. The final day of the match certainly promises to be an exciting one.

Here is how Twitterati reacted to Yasir’s brilliant bowling effort:
