Delhi Daredevils camp had their hopes on the young batting sensation Rishabh Pant during their away clash against the Gujarat Lions at Kanpur. DD camp was already down and out in the tournament but had their pride at stake when they took on the Lions. A target of 196 looked daunting right from the onset. It needed some serious batting in the run chase to overhaul the massive total.
Despite the odds being against them, the team took confidence from the way they had previously played against the very same opposition a few matches ago in the season. They had 208 to overhaul back then in Delhi. Some stunning batting display from Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson had seen their side race past the target. The young duo had stitched a magnificent 143 run stand back on the day.
Now, they had the same opposition, the same player, and a similar mighty target to chase. Hence, the eyes were glued on Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. Samson was cleaned up cheaply on 10. In walked Pant at the crease brimming with confidence. On the very first ball that he faced, he hit a four to announce his arrival at the crease.
However, what followed on the next delivery was utterly disgusting. Pant was run out on the very next ball in one the most bizarre fashions that one could see on the cricket field. He had a brainfade moment at the crease. Pradeep Sangwan managed to hit his pads as the Lions fielders appealed in unison. He was so much involved in the lbw appeal that he forgot he was out of the crease.
GL skipper Suresh Raina cashed in big time to hit the stumps and get him run out. The dismissal was not the first time he has been out in this fashion. Back in the ICC U19 World Cup 2016, he had a similar moment of brainfade. Meanwhile, the Twitterati could not stop talking about his dismissal against the Lions. Here is how they reacted:
What an embarrassing dismissal that for Pant. Too occupied with his injury.

With the wickets of Samson and Pant, the Lions would consider the match in their hands already! #GLvDD #IPL

The one time Rishabh Pant should not have batted at no.3, DD send him out with a half-injured hand. Well played as ever! #DDvsGL #IPL pic.twitter.com/VvQJJ5YzlD

When you're scared at the sight of a cat and accidentally step on the tail of a dog. That's what happened with #Rishabhpant today #GLVDD ??

Rishabh Pant has a habit of being casual, he was made to pay today as well as during the final of the U-19 World Cup in 2016. #IPL #GLvDD pic.twitter.com/1372WMu6Ku

#GLvDD #Rishabhpant is so childish. He need to work on too much things. He should not called for International Matches early at this time.
