Twitter reacts to Michael Clarke’s final goodbye to ODI cricket: Michael Clarke had announced his retirement from the ODI format yesterday. Today he led his team for the final time in ODIs in the all-important World Cup final against an in-form New Zealand. He retired from the ODIs to prolong his Test career, which has been hampered due to his chronic back and hamstring problems.
He led the team from the front with counter attacking the Kiwis from the first ball and then scoring a match winning 74 runs in the chase of 183 runs. He survived a fierce spell of bowling from Trent Boult and Matt Henry, to lead Australia to the cusp of victory.
The Twitter-verse was buzzed with heart felt tribute and ovation for Michael Clarke as he retires from the game as a 2 time World Cup winner and Captain.
Sangakarra, Clarke, Vettori, Jayawardene…last we have seen of these legends in this format. Thanks for the memories guys! #greats
