The ongoing proliferation of the WHO-accredited pandemic that is the coronavirus COVID-19 has taken the entire world by storm. The total number of global cases has surpassed 2,50,000 and more than 10,000 people have already fallen prey to the pandemic virus. More and more cases are being reported every day and in a bid to counter the proliferation, social distancing and complete isolation are being encouraged all over the world.

One of the key things in keeping the virus away is by maintaining hygiene, and a few days ago, the World Health Organisation [WHO] had launched the ‘Safehands’ challenge to promote the power of washing hands. The apex health organization has invited public figures from all walks of life to take up the challenge and create awareness among the public.

A plethora of public figures including Bollywood personalities like Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma have taken up the challenge, posting videos of them washing their hands. On the cricketing front, Sri Lankan batsman Kusal Mendis took up the challenge and posted a video of him washing his hands.

The Sri Lankan batsman was praised for creating awareness, but at the same time, the right-hander came in for some stinging criticism after the social media users noticed that he had kept the tap on while applying soap on his hands, thereby wasting a lot of water.

Meanwhile, India is bracing itself for a self-imposed ‘Janta ka Curfew’ on Sunday, March 22, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an address to the nation, appealed to the countrymen to embrace ‘self-isolation’ from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Virat Kohli also urged Indian people to follow instructions

Indian captain Virat Kohli, just like many other celebrities, took to Twitter to urge people to follow the guidelines laid down by the government.

“We need to be alert, attentive and aware” in the wake of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Be alert, attentive and aware to combat the threat posed by Covid 19. We, as responsible citizens, need to adhere to the norms put in place for our safety as announced by our Honourable Prime Minister Shri @NarendraModi ji. #IndiaFightsCorona,” Kohli’s tweeted.
