The selection panel led by MSK Prasad announced the 15-man squad on Saturday for the upcoming two-match Test series against Windies. The team had quite a few changes expectedly after a series loss against England earlier this month. Mayank Agarwal and Mohammed Siraj earned maiden Test call-ups ad the duo thoroughly deserved it as well. However, one has to feel sad for Karun Nair who was dropped for warming the bench throughout the tour.

Nair is one of the only two Indian batsmen in Tests to have scored a triple century. But he has been faded away dramatically after that knock. The youngster played a couple of Test matches against Australia at home but hasn’t got enough opportunities despite being in the squad. Hanuma Vihari was handed over a debut ahead of him in the fifth Test at The Oval who was picked in the squad after the third Test.

No communication from the management

Karun Nair was expectedly disappointed over his exclusion. But the worse thing about it is neither the team management nor the selectors have spoken to him about the same. The youngster opined that he will have to keep doing well in domestic cricket to get picked again now. “No, we haven’t had any conversations. Nothing at all. It is difficult, but I haven’t gone forth and asked anything, but yeah, we haven’t had any conversation,” Nair said while speaking to Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw is set to make his international debut in the first Test against Windies which will commence on October 4 in Rajkot. Though it will be interesting to see if Agarwal also gets a go given that Team India is playing in helpful conditions at home.

While the former cricketers also felt bad for Nair, Twitterati also sympathised for him. They were of the opinion that he should’ve played a few games before being dropped.
