KL Rahul has just not been able to find his feet in Test cricket. His travails don’t seem to see an end even as he keeps succumbing to constant failures. However, Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper, has kept backing up even after his poor run of form. Apart from his century against England at the Kennington Oval last year, the Karnataka batter hasn’t been able to get substantial scores under his belt.

Rahul was awful in the tour of Australia as well and that didn’t seem to help his cause in the longest format. Rahul is presently in the West Indies, playing the two-match series. The right-hander got a couple of starts in the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. However, in both instances, he couldn’t convert them after being dismissed by tweaker Roston Chase.

KL Rahul straining in the West Indies

The second Test at the Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica turned out to be equivalent to a nightmare for Rahul. In the first innings, he could only manage 13 runs after toiling hard for 26 balls. Jason Holder, the opposition skipper, found his outside edge and Rahkeem Cornwall, who was making his debut, took a good catch in the slip cordon. Rahul was looking determined in the second innings though.

He played out as many as 63 deliveries and got only six runs. Rahul did the hard yards, and was successful in playing out the new ball without playing a rash stroke. Eventually, his hard-fought vigil was brought to an end by Kemar Roach. Rahul poked outside a delivery. The ball shaped away from the batter and all Rahul could do was get a outside edge. Jahmar Hamilton took his catch.

It brought to end his disastrous tour in the red-ball format in the West Indies. India are next scheduled to play a Test series versus South Africa and it remains to be seen whether Rahul gets picked or not. In the meantime, Rahul has again been a recipient of severe trolling after his labored knock in the second innings. The netizens didn’t turn any stones down in ridiculing him.
