Australia, especially their batsmen, have their struggled immensely in the ongoing Test series against India. The fourth Test in Sydney has literally left their fans fuming as the visitors have dominated them completely from the word go. After conceding 622 runs in the first innings, the onus was on the batsmen to show some grit but after a good start, the middle-order was blown away once again. The experienced Shaun Marsh failed to contribute for the umpteenth time and was snaffled by Ravindra Jadeja.
The first innings saw the left-hander mustering only eight runs and was undone by a superb delivery by Jadeja as Ajinkya Rahane took a simple catch at slip. After sitting pretty at 128/1, they were reduced to 144/3 when Marsh got out and this was not the first time that the hosts had given away a decent start. The same had happened in Perth when a century partnership was blown away by the lacklustre middle-order.
Marsh, more often than not, was in the thick of the things and as a senior was expected to step up in this series. However, he has failed miserably and has been rolled over by Jasprit Bumrah mostly with his exceptional variations .
Mediocre series for Marsh
While his brother Mitchell Marsh has been dropped after only a solitary appearance in the series, Shaun Marsh might also be in line to be axed after the ongoing Test match. Batting at four, he has mustered only 183 runs in the seven innings wit a solitary half-century to his name. These efforts are certainly not enough when it comes to beating the World number 1 Test team.
With India’s bowlers breathing fire, Shaun should’ve been the rock for Australia. But it panned out exactly in the opposite way and the selectors might remove him from the team now. Twitterati is also demanding the same as they are done with him and have lashed out at the batsman for under-performing consistently.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
The worst thing that could have happened to the #Australian Cricket is not the ball tempering saga. But, the Marsh brothers, who are hell-bent to destroy their legacy. Bye Bye #ShaunMarsh – That's the end of that!

The way Shaun Marsh has been batting of late, he wouldn't even get into my indoor cricket let alone the Australian Cricket Team #AUDvIND

Shaun Marsh is far from the sole reason Australia will lose this series.
However, his continued selection is the definition of insanity. He has one 50 in his last 19 innings for an average of 18. He has played 38 Tests for an average of 34. What are the selectors expecting?— Ryan O'Connell (@RyanOak) January 5, 2019
Australia must be considering moving on from Shaun Marsh….so he can be recalled of course #AUSvIND

I think Tim Paine is in trouble to keep his spot, despite him being captain. Hasn’t performed as a batter – leading great, but needs to do more .. also Shaun Marsh needs to go. Stoinis is ready! #AUSvsIND #AusvsIndia

It’s remarkable to see how many ‘fans’ lay Australia’s cricket woes at the feet of Shaun Marsh, the mob love to have a scapegoat, the whole team and it’s management is struggling, sack him or keep him, they’ll still lose.

Shaun Marsh's Test future in doubt after another failure. Wow, there's a headline I never thought I'd see. He could pull out some no 3 grit and give the ball a touch up, no way he gets dropped. #GroundHogDay

I seriously can’t listen to anyone say there are no better options than Shaun Marsh anymore. #AUDvIND
