Not just the players but even former cricketers and commentators engage is some hardcore sledging and banters on social media. Last week, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had lashed out at Sanjay Manjrekar as he didn’t appreciate the commentator calling him a “bits and pieces cricketer” in one of the interviews. Jadeja put out a harsh tweet against Manjrekar and though the latter didn’t choose to respond to it, Michael Vaughan certainly picked it up.

After keeping the matter alive for the last few days, he posted the ‘bits and pieces’ tweet when Jadeja was introduced in the attack. The pitch at the Old Trafford in Manchester has assisted the spinners all through the tournament and it did today as well. Even under grey skies, the ball was turning and the left-arm spinner made great use of it to dismiss New Zealand opener, Henry Nicholls.

Jadeja got one to turn and bounce, it came into the left-hander who wasn’t expecting that movement. It beat the inside edge of his bat and between bat and pad went onto crash the stumps. That was a big wicket for India as the partnership between him and Kane Williamson was just starting to get threatening.

Vaughan’s obsession with bits and pieces

Even at that time, Vaughan tweeted that ‘bits and piece can spin it’.  Here are the couple of tweets from the former England captain that he posted during the game- “Bits & pieces time … !!’

“Bloody hell Bits & Piece can Spin it ….”

It was too much for Manjrekar to take and probably done with those sly takes at him, the Indian decided to block Vaughan. The Englishman shared that bit of news on his feed as well and wrote- “BREAKING NEWS .. I have been blocked by @sanjaymanjrekar.. !!!”

Earlier, despite the Jadeja controversy, Manjrekar had expected him to be a part of the Indian playing XI for the match. In a tweet, he’d posted the likely team India would field in the game.

“Trying to predict Indian team for the semis. Let’s see how many I get right. Do send yours too. Will retweet a few. Rohit Rahul Virat Pant Hardik Dhoni Jadeja Bhuvi Shami Kuldeep* Bumrah. *If pitch is not a turner.” He wrote.

Vaughan got inquisitive and asked why would he pick the bits and pieces guy in his team.

“I see you have picked that bits and pieces cricketer !!!”

Manjrekar clarified that it was his predicted team and not the one he would field.

“‘Predicted’ my dear Vaughan…not ‘my’ team.”

Vaughan tried to get his preferred team out but the Mumbaikar wasn’t quite interested to respond “What’s your team then my dear Sanjay !! Are you picking any bits & pieces cricketers ?”
