Twitter welcomes cricket in Pakistan as the country gears up for the historic moment

September 12 will be registered in Pakistan history as the day when cricket returned to the country after 8 long years. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has left no stone unturned ahead of the historic series which has been rightfully termed as ‘Independence Cup’. Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has been renovated and decorated to welcome international cricketers after a long time. Similarly, social media too has geared up for the event and has wished the country for the successful hosting of the series.

World XI team led by Faf du Plessis has arrived in Lahore amidst tight security around the players and the hotel. As many as 9000 police and the paramilitary staff has been deployed over the next five days in Lahore to avoid any unwanted incidents. The shops and restaurants around the venue to be shut for the duration of the series while spectators will have to pass through multiple security checkpoints. All the tickets for the series have already been sold out which proves that Pakistan is a cricket frenzy nation.

Pakistani players excited

The current generation of players from Pakistan have never played in front of their home crowd and are excited to feature in the 3-match T20I series against World XI. There has been a resounding welcome of the World XI team as social media is hailing their spirits to visit the country. Some of the cricketers from the country too could not hide their excitement ahead of the series and expressed their happiness.

Shoaib Malik, the senior most member of the squad has urged the fans to support the cricket in full spirit. In his message to his followers he wrote, “Doston, I want to see this spirit at the #T20I – lets show the world how we celebrate cricket.. Pakistani style!”

Even the other players like Umar Gul, Umar Akmal, Mohammad Hafeez and Ahmad Shehzad welcomed cricket back to their own country.
