It was a torturous day for Pakistani cricket fans as they were expecting the side to give a shot at the impossible mission, but as it turns out, they decided to bat the innings out quite normally. Imam-ul-Haq registered his first World Cup century with good contributions from Babar Azam and Imad Wasim as the side ended up scoring 315 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

A funny incident during the match caught the attention of the fans and just the way it happens on social media, it didn’t take long for it to become meme content. Imad had a difficult task to negotiate with the Bangladeshi bowlers in the death overs with wickets falling at regular intervals on the other end. But the all-rounder did a great job to register a 26-ball 43. His innings included 6 fours and one six.

But the fans found it very funny when he raised his bat in acknowledgement to the fans after he was dismissed in the final over of innings. While we see such stuff happening only when a batsman plays a herculean cameo or a big hundred, some people didn’t understand the purpose behind Imad raising his bat. The fans did give his knock a decent reception at the Lord’s, but people on social media found it hilarious.

Another day, another “Intentless” performance

The word intent has been over-used in the last one week or so, ever since India’s defeat to England in Birmingham. The word was back trending when New Zealand was outplayed by the English three days later. On both occasions, Pakistan’s qualification scenario was on the line and they didn’t get any considerable favour from India or Kiwis to remain relevant in the tournament.

The Men in Green decided to bat first after winning the toss, simply because they had no other choice. The targets were clear and the fans expected them to go full-monty from the word go, but the openers showed very little intent to attempt for a score in excess of 350. Imam-ul-Haq scored a run-a-ball hundred whilst Babar fell just four short of a hundred. Pakistan ended up scoring 315 runs for the loss of nine wickets with Mustafizur picking up a five-fer for the Tigers.

It wasn’t a major talking point, but Imad did catch a lot of attention for his gesture, here are some reactions:
