The Indian Premier League (IPL) has literally come alive this weekend as Chris Gayle announced himself in the tournament against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). R Ashwin, at the toss, informed that the big man from the Caribbean nation is playing and the crowd went berserk like anything as they anticipated the special innings. He didn’t disappoint though and entertained them to the fullest by putting an exhibition of sheer power. However, Gayle has brought the tournament alive as the fans might witness few more innings like this now in the near future.
Rewind back the memories to the auction day when literally nobody was interested in Gayle and his base price of Rs 2 Crore was a little too high one felt. Interestingly, his name came under the hammer thrice, the most for any player, and when he was almost going to go unsold, KXIP raised their baton and bagged him only for everyone to applaud the fact that he deserved to play in the IPL. He has done so much in this league and without him, it would not have felt nice.
Gayle show in Mohali
As CSK opted to field first it was time to fasten the seatbelts for the cricket fans as Chris Gayle arrived at the crease to open along with KL Rahul. What followed was an absolute carnage!! He took his time for the first couple of overs and then launched an assault on the bowlers of the opposition. The backfoot punches, the front foot hits over the bowler’s head, that muscle power everything unfurled in a short period of time as he blazed to a half-century off just 22 deliveries. He eventually got out for 63 off 33 deliveries with 7 fours and 4 sixes.
Twitterati was thrilled with the fact that Gayle returned to the action which was a huge surprise for everyone. Though he was smashing CSK bowlers out of the park, they were busy trolling RCB who let him go in the auction this year. While few of them felt why wasn’t he included in the playing XI in the earlier games. Surely, the Universe Boss has given a reason to smile for everyone and has proved that he always had in it and still can win the games single-handedly at the age of 38.
Here’s how they reacted:
Awesome to see Gayle back striking the ball so cleanly – adds another level to some great cricket already played this past week. Register @StarPickFantasy and take your own game to the next level too @trigam
