England’s domestic T20 tournament has helped fans witness a rare scene on Friday. England’s Test skipper Joe Root and New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson played together in the same team. Williamson recently struck a deal with the Yorkshire Cricket Club to represent them in the T20 Blast. Meanwhile, Yorkshire is Joe Root’s county team.

Hence, when these two batted together in the North group encounter against Lancashire, it was a delight for the fans. Both of these batsmen are considered to be among the ‘Fab-4’ in world cricket. Also, it is a rarity that we see such top class players play for the same team. However, to their utter disappointment, their team ended up losing the game by just one run.

Yorkshire’s skipper Steven Patterson won the toss and opted to field first in a game that was shortened due to rain. The game was reduced to 14 overs per side. Batting first, Lancashire put up a huge total of 176 runs for the loss of two wickets. Liam Livingstone, who has been in wonderful form this season continued to impress everyone. He scored 79 off just 37 balls to give his team the ideal start.

Furthermore, with the help of cameos from Arronn Lilley and Jordan Clark, they got to the massive total. In the chase, Adam Lyth provided Yorkshire with the start they wanted. He scored 60 off just 26 balls. However, the team lost its way in between. But, Joe Root came to the rescue and scored a brilliant half-century, although it went in vain. His team needed 17 runs to win in the last over and the English batter could only score 13 runs off the first five balls.

Williamson, who came into the middle in the 19th over, hit a boundary off his first ball and needed to do that again in the last ball of the innings. However, he failed to do so and managed to score only 2 runs. Yorkshire, tantalisingly, fell short of the target by just 1 run. Nevertheless, Twitterati was delighted to watch this duo bat and shared their happiness on Twitter.
