Rishabh Pant was handed over the Test debut in the ongoing third Test between England and India after Dinesh Karthik failed to latch on to his opportunity. All eyes were on the 20-year-old when he walked out to bat on Saturday and he stunned everyone by getting off the mark with a six off Adil Rashid’s bowling and went on to score 24 runs in his maiden Test innings. More than the runs he scored, the experts were impressed as she showed good composure late on the first day.

The flamboyant left-hander was mature in his approach as he denied a wicket to England bowlers who had taken a new ball after 80 overs. Eventually, he was dismissed on 24 by Stuart Broad and also got an earful from him as the youngster got the taste of the tough strides in the whites. After battling it out with the willow, the fans were interested to see his wicketkeeping skills as it is not easy in England in swinging conditions.

Pant takes 3 catches

However, Rishabh Pant has stepped up to the task and has taken three good catches so far. He has been involved in all the three dismissals and has taken the catches cleanly. While Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings gave a straightforward chance as the ball just settled into his gloves, Pant had to dive to the leg-side to grab a stunner in order to send back Ollie Pope.

In the process, he also became only the second Indian wicketkeeper after Bharath Reddy and third overall to be involved in the first three dismissals on debut in Tests. He surely must be loving Test cricket at the moment and will be keen to continue the good work in his first game.

Twitter was thrilled to see Pant perform well both with the bat and with the gloves. They were all praise of him and hoped for him to continue doing a good job.
