The first Test between Australia and India is all set to begin on Thursday at the Adelaide Oval. While the hosts have announced their playing XI. Team India has stuck to their norm of naming the 12-man group ahead of the Test match. Both the teams have taken some surprising calls with Australia leaving out one of their vice-captains Mitchell Marsh and the visitors have once again not picked Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Ravi Ashwin is the lone spinner in the line-up despite the fact that Ravindra Jadeja was the one who performed above expectations in the only opportunity he got in England. Prithvi Shaw’s injury has also paved the way for Murali Vijay to make a comeback and he has warmed up nicely with a century in the second innings. India’s three-pronged pace attack comprises of Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.

The absence of Bhuvi and Kuldeep

With the pace trio doing extremely well this year in the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, they were expected to be retained. Though leaving a player like Bhuvi who can swing the ball both ways and show some resistance with the bat down the order is a brave call which has left the fans surprised and perplexed at the same time.

Also, Kuldeep Yadav was termed to be the danger man for the home side who is not even in the 12-man squad with the team management deciding to go with only one spinner. The chinaman bowler made his Test debut against Australia in the fourth and deciding Test match in Dharamsala last year and had made an immediate impact.

Rohit Sharma, however, is the part of the 12 that was announced earlier today with Hanuma Vihari also present. Many of the fans are fuming with Rohit’s inclusion as they feel the team is still not sure about Vihari who has done so well in the limited opportunities. It will be interesting to see who gets a chance to feature in the series opener in Adelaide on Thursday.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to India’s 12-man squad:
