Ellyse Perry, the Australian women’s cricketer, and her husband Matt Toomua have decided to end their marriage after four years. The duo released a statement on Saturday, July 25 to make an announcement for the same. Back in December 2015, the couple entered the wedlock. However, it was from February this year that rumours of their separation were doing the rounds.

During the Australian Cricket Awards in Melbourne, Perry was seen without her wedding ring. During the award function, she got the Belinda Clark Award for the third time. She was last a part of the national team in the 2020 edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia earlier this year. However, she developed an injury and got ruled out after playing only four matches.

“It’s with the greatest of respect for one another that we decided to separate earlier this year. We felt this was the right course of action and is in the best interests of each other and our current lives. This is something that has evolved and is a mutual decision,” the couple said in a joint statement.

“Throughout our relationship we have remained private and we ask that our space and privacy continue to be respected during this difficult time for both of us,” the statement added. Perry has had an exceptional career thus far. In eight Tests, 112 ODIs and 120 T20Is, she has scored over 4,800 runs and picked up 297 wickets. She is at the peak of her career without a doubt.

In the meantime, the netizens have poked fun at Murali Vijay, the discarded Indian cricketer. Earlier this year, Vijay called Perry “beautiful” and also expressed his desire to have dinner with the 29-year-old. “Ellyse Perry. She is very beautiful. I want to have dinner with her,” he said.

Perry didn’t mind replying to Vijay. The New South Wales-born also came up with a witty reply. “I hope he’s paying. That’s very kind of him. I’m flattered,” Perry said. Now that Perry has announced her separation with her husband, the netizens feel that it has opened the doors on Vijay.
