There was a time when India was deemed to be one of the weakest teams as far as fielding was concerned. They allowed oppositions freebies and the catching wasn’t up to the mark either. Even as they kept producing a number of massive names in those days, the standard of fielding let them down quite a few times. Hence, India was good enough, but not outstanding.

However, the trends took a turn and at the present point in time, India are among the most prolific fielding teams. But over the last few decades, India kept having at least one outstanding fielder, though it didn’t make much of a difference. Recently, Harsha Bhogle, the renowned cricket journalist, tried to jot down the best Indian fielders over the period of time.

Harsha Bhogle names his best

Eknath Solkar was arguably India’s best fielder at the short leg region. Bhogle kept him right at the top. At second place, he kept Mohammad Azharuddin, the former skipper of the national team. At number three, he slotted Ravindra Jadeja, who has been able to pull off some superlative efforts. Jadeja has inflicted run-outs, taken catches and saved runs on a consistent basis.

He also named 10 others, who he believed was also outstanding. Among them, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh are the ones, who are yet to bid goodbye to the cricket field. Mohammad Kaif, who hung his boots back in 2018, is also a part of the list.

Bhogle took to Twitter and wrote, “Good morning. Three best Indian fielders for me. 1. Eknath Solkar 2. Mohd Azharuddin 3. Ravindra Jadeja Others touched by brilliance (top of mind) Hemu Adhikari, Tiger Pataudi, Rusi Surti, Syed Kirmani, Abid Ali, Brijesh Patel, Ajay Jadeja, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Mohd Kaif.”

The fans, however, felt that a prominent name was missing in the list. The fans felt that Robin Singh, the former Indian cricketer, should have featured there. Singh was recently a part of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) where he was the head coach of one of the franchises. Even for India, he was a handy prospect, both with the bat and on the field.
