Kuldeep Yadav, the Indian spinner, made his way in the national team for the second Test against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Kuldeep made his debut way back in 2017 in a Test against Australia, but he has found it tough to break into the playing eleven. Before the ongoing game, Kuldeep last played against the Aussies at the Sydney Cricket Ground in January 2019.

He even has a six-wicket haul to his name at the SCG itself. However, the fact that he had to warm the benches for as long as two years raised a lot of eyebrows. In the opening Test at the Chepauk, India played three spinners, but Kuldeep couldn’t find a place in the eleven. The Indians preferred Ravi Ashwin, Washington Sundar, and Shahbaz Nadeem in their playing eleven.

Even in the second Test, India went in with three spinners. But instead of Sundar and Nadeem, the hosts have given chances to Kuldeep and Axar Patel, who made his Test debut. In the meantime, Twitterati are mightily happy after Kuldeep forayed back into the purest format of the game.

Here’s how the netizens reacted:

Kuldeep Yadav gets backing from former cricketers

Earlier, Pragyan Ojha, the former Indian cricketer, reckoned that Kuldeep would have been a ‘big asset’ for Team India in the second Test. Ojha felt that since Kuldeep has loads of variations up his sleeves, he could make a difference at the Chepauk.

“Kuldeep Yadav can make a difference if the wicket is, as everyone is speaking that it is going to turn from Day 1, so Kuldeep can be a big asset for you because a wrist spinner is always a wicket-taking option for you. And someone like Kuldeep, he has got a lot of variation. So, let’s see how things unfold tomorrow,” Ojha was quoted as saying in India Today.

Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar, another former Indian cricketer, backed Kuldeep to play the second Test after India’s 227-run defeat in the opening Test.

“Maybe they will bring Kuldeep Yadav for the next Test in place of Nadeem or Washington Sundar, whoever it is. But they need to look at dismissing England for lesser than what they scored this around,” Gavaskar said.
