Dinesh Karthik had a horrible time batting in the first One-Day International game between India and Sri Lanka at Dharamsala as he registered the record of scoring the longest duck by an Indian batsman in an ODI. Before him, that unwanted record was held by Eknath Solkar.

Karthik looked completely out of sorts right through his presence at the crease against the moving ball. He was beaten repeatedly both on the inside as well as the outside edge and his dismissal always looked on the cards.

Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal set him up nicely by bowling a string of outsiwngers before bringing one back in sharply to catch him unaware. The right-hander was prepared for another outswinger and was rooted to the crease rather than going forward and was trapped right in front of the stumps.

He played 18 balls which is equivalent to 3 overs but didn’t manage to open his account before getting out. Coming in to bat at No.4 he was dismissed when the team just had 8 runs on the board and with his departure were three down.

Karthik’s dismissal left the Twitterati frustrated as they slammed him for his innings and urged BCCI to drop him from the team altogether. Some were of the view that there’s no point for the selectors to keep going back to Karthik all the time as he is not young anymore and can’t be the future of the team. While the others thought Rishabh Pant could be a better option in the middle order than the Tamil Nadu veteran.

They trolled Karthik as well by congratulating him for breaking the record of the longest duck by an Indian batsman. A couple of them opined that the wicketkeeper-batsman has a genius brain as he did not go for a review after being adjudged leg before wicket.
